The United Nations has appointed Sam Kutesa, foreign minister of Uganda, as president of its general assembly. The nomination has generated controversy because of Uganda's repressive laws against homosexuality. Christian-Muslim violence in the CAR continues, with eleven Christians killed in a church in Bangui. Meriam Yehya Ibrahim Ishag, a Sudanese Christian woman born to a Muslim man and Christian woman, has received the death penalty for marrying a Christian man. The WarkaWater, a device which can collect up to 26 gallons of water per day, will help provide Ethiopians with a regular water supply. Civil war in South Sudan has led to the death of thousands, the displacement of millions, and a food crisis. |
